Lucy’s bold whimsical style and clear vision keep her photography fresh, optimistic, and inviting. She loves strong color and clean light. She’s also a fan of keeping it real.
Lucy studied painting & printmaking at Yale University, taught art in Italy, and was a photo editor at Food & Wine magazine before she took up a full time post behind the camera. Lucy’s production skills are a secret weapon and her resourcefulness and easy-going personality make all shoots a pleasure for client, crew, and subjects.
She’s also a movie star. Ok, not really, but she did have a line in a movie with Geena Davis, Madonna, and Tom Hanks…can you guess which one?
Why, thank you, kind clients!
“I have known and worked with Lucy Schaeffer for many years as both a photographer, prop stylist, food stylist, problem-solver, idea person and producer—I know, right!!
Her photography speaks for itself. More importantly she understands food and how to create images that get to the heart of why we want and love food. She’s full of ideas and always ready to collaborate. I can’t recommend her highly enough and I know you’ll get great shots, top talent, good-looking food and no stress.”

“Lucy excels in capturing a brand’s vision on set, but her expertise in food content means her suggestions and influence make the content even better. Hiring her has also gotten my team out of jams once or twice, too! We know that Lucy will deliver, even when we pull her into project on short notice. Basically, I am always happy to hire Lucy as it means I know the work will get done with little hand-holding, and it will be beautiful.”

“Lucy Schaeffer is an absolute dream to work with from ideation to execution. She is a true professional while keeping things on set feeling fun, collaborative, and stress-free. Chipotle hired Lucy for what was intended as one photoshoot to capture social media assets, and we rehired her over and over again. Her photos are still used throughout Chipotle marketing – her photos are clean, artistic, detail-focused, and shot with a true vision. If ever we requested edits to any images, Lucy delivered them fast and exactly as we asked. I would recommend her to any client.”
— Candice Beck | Chipotle
"Lucy was amazing! I hired her to take photographs of one of my interior design projects in Brooklyn Heights, and she immediately understood how to capture the look & feel of the space. She was so professional, warm and easy to work with. She promptly arrived with all her equipment, and set up everything easily and with no-fuss. Lucy had a clear and thoughtful vision for each shot - overalls, details, and more - and we worked together seamlessly. The final outcome exceeded my expectations. The photos turned out so beautiful, bright and magical! Thank you Lucy for your professionalism and talent."
